The State of Mississippi received $1,250,000,000 (plus interest earned) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide economic support and aid and recovery for costs incurred in connection with the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), including business interruption caused by forced closures or restricted operations resulting from voluntary closures instituted to promote social distancing measures, decreased customer demand, cleaning or disinfection, and provision of personal protective equipment.

The State of Mississippi was awarded $268,046,958 under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) for distribution to non-entitlement units of local government (NEUs) which are local governments typically serving a population under 50,000. The awarded amount of $268,046,958 will be distributed in two installments. The ARPA directs the Sate to distribute these funds to the NEUs within the state. These funds, plus interest, will be allocated to NEUs.
